The Canyon
Salt Lake City International Airport

Location: Salt Lake City, UT
Project Year: 2021
Project Status: Completed
Client: Gordon Huether Studio

The Canyon is an architecturally integrated public art installation inspired by Utah’s geological landscapes, transforming airport circulation into a sculptural spatial experience of rhythm, depth, and movement. Developed alongside Gordon Huether and the team at Brave Design, the project merges art and architecture into an immersive environment shaped by layered form, light, and repetition.

Process

My role focused on translating the artistic vision into coordinated digital development, bridging conceptual exploration with production realities. Through advanced 3D modeling, iterative form studies, and spatial testing, I helped develop the geometry while resolving scale, sequencing, visual continuity, and fabrication constraints across the installation.

Design Intent

The design sought to elevate movement through the terminal into a spatial experience rather than a purely functional transition. By using repetition, transparency, and sculptural layering, the installation creates shifting perceptions of depth and motion—allowing the environment to unfold dynamically as passengers move through the space.
